Sunbathing by the pool, spending a relaxing day at the beach, going on long bike rides with the family, enjoying a picnic in your favorite park- there’s a million reasons to be outdoors in the summer. But sunnier days means higher UV rays- enjoy your summer, but keep your skin hydrated & protected!
Does your skin suddenly have a more pink/red tone to it? Most likely you have a sunburn from soaking up too many UV rays. Sunburns are uncomfortable, itchy, and painful. All you want to do is jump in an ice cold bath to relieve the pain - luckily, you don’t have to.
Need to cool the burn, relieve discomfort, or heal damaged skin? Enter essential oils, which can provide pain relief and skin repair (and it’s all natural)!
1. Skin Sensations: Peppermint & Eucalyptus
Both of these oils have a cooling sensation that will soothe your sunburned skin and relieve pain. Just add 1-2 drops of either essential oil to your favorite carrier oil (e.g., Almond Oil) and apply topically to the target area.
2. Softer Touch: Lavender
Thanks to lavender’s anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it is able to relieve discomfort and speed up the healing process for sunburns. While lavender can be applied topically to the skin, you can also add 4-6 drops to a bath for a relaxing (yet still beneficial) experience.
3. Clear Complexions: Clary Sage
Once the sunburn has healed, we often think that we are in the clear, but sun exposure causes more harm than we think. While a sunburn only lasts a few days, sun damaged skin leads to wrinkles, dark spots, and fine lines. Clary Sage is an essential oil with anti-aging properties that promotes clear complexion, reduces fine lines, and prevents wrinkles.
